Announces Workspace Mobile at NAEM Annual EHS Management Forum
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA October 24, 2007 – Perillon, a leader in environmental, health and safety (EH&S) software-as-a-service, today announced general release of an innovative mobile-based environmental, health and safety software – Workspace Mobile™. Running on windows based handheld devices, this mobile software platform will speed processes data collection and improve accuracy for countless EH&S functions. The initial release delivers out-of-the-box templates for EH&S inspections – a critical function to ensure regulatory compliance, production uptime and injury free workplaces. The announcement was made at the NAEM 15th Annual EHS Management Forum in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Historically, EH&S software providers have offered inflexible hard coded applications for handhelds that tended to be loosely connected with business software. This results in hard to use software that did not accommodate changing business needs and did work well with back end applications. Perillon took a different approach, creating a platform that can be customer configured for virtually any EH&S business process. Perillon also fully integrated this platform with Workspace, its leading EHS software suite, to ensure that processes are managed end to end.
The first version of Workspace Mobile offers templates for inspections, a routine part of an EH&S professional's world. This "routine" can be a real challenge—getting remote non-EH&S staff to comply with the inspection process, managing concurrent schedules, ensuring timely corrective action and follow-up tasks, and turning a pile of paper inspection reports into information that is useful and visible by others.
Running on Microsoft Windows Mobile based handheld devices, Workspace Mobile™ insures that EH&S inspections are performed accurately, corrective actions are kicked off immediately, and inspection policies, schedules, and reports are conveniently accessible to the entire organization. “EH&S inspections are the lifeblood of many organizations. If they don't identify potential or actual problems and take corrective action, serious problems can result - production shutdowns, environmental spills, fines and notice of violations. Without proper inspections, explosions, injury, or worse can occur.” John Niemoller, Perillon's President said at NAEM. “Yet inspections are still typically done on paper by remote staff with limited corporate oversight or visibility. Workspace Mobile solves this.”
Inspection forms are configured using innovative Logic-Driven Question Templates™. Users create these templates in Workspace™, Perillon's EH&S software, using a browser-based graphical user interface. Once the associated questions and logic are established, inspections are scheduled and assigned to the proper inspection points and personnel. Wireless synchronization provides all the necessary information to the mobile devices and also facilitates the transfer of collected data from the handheld users in the field. Scheduled inspections are presented to the handheld users as intuitive calendar-style “to-do” lists. Inspection questions are laid out simply and easily, and questions flow logically based on the responses to previous questions.
What's more, Workspace Mobile displays integrated reference pictures that are also streamed down to the handheld during synchronization. This helps ensure that the proper equipment is being inspected. Data that is collected by the handhelds is transmitted wirelessly to Workspace where corrective actions and follow up tasks are triggered immediately, minimizing production downtime or compliance violations. Managers can easily access data for reporting and tracking of compliance, but more importantly, for identifying opportunities for preventative actions.
Workspace Mobile was developed using the Microsoft® .NET Compact Framework, SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition, and Microsoft SQL Server™ 2005's Merge Replication and RDA features. The mobile architecture is designed to complement the demanding workflow processes of the in-and-out of network “occasionally connected” EH&S professional in the field and provides security, performance, and compatibility with a wide range of cost-effective hardware solutions.
